Perhaps best of all, Marco Island’s Gulf beaches and salmon sunsets make a stirring setting for strolling or shelling. High-rise condominiums grace some of Marco’s coast. It’s beaches are wide, with snowy white sand polka-dotted with conches, fan shells and even sand dollars. The smell of the salty sea is the first thing to greet tourists heading over the bridge to this island community. That may be why visitors just naturally want to be outside, to deepsea fish or fish the flats, to ski, walk to the beaches, sail, ride the waves on water scooters, or play tennis and golf. Explore the Everglades on an airboat, a 30 minute ride from Marco Island.
Marco Island-Imagine, if you can, wide, sugar-fine beaches and thousands of mangrove islands thick with snowy egrets, great blue herons and raccoon families. East stretches the Everglades, that mysteriously beautiful river of golden grass. North is Naples, with ritzy resorts, elegant art galleries, championship golf courses and an upscale shopping mall.
